Here’s Some Tips on How to Make your Microwave Oven Last Longer

Some people have a microwave that just sits on the kitchen table, but some people also have a microwave that is built-in with the kitchen so replacing it would be such a chore. A microwave oven should last around 10 years, if you are using and maintaining it correctly. Here’s some tips you could try in order to make your microwave oven last as long as possible.

Always Keep It Clean

The first thing you should do to make your microwave last longer is to always make sure it’s clean. Preparing food using a microwave could be messy, and when you spill something in your microwave, immediately use a sponge to clean it up.

This is important because if you spill something and use the microwave oven without cleaning up your mess first, the food debris will get cooked just like any other food. Once they’re cooked, it will be really hard to remove them. You could use something solid to scrap them, but that would risk damaging the inside of your microwave.

Don’t Slam the Door

This is usually the problem for a large family with a lot of family members, at least one of them has the habit of slamming the microwave’s door. Doing this, especially regularly will cause irreparable damage to the microwave.

To make you understand, a microwave has three and sometimes even four switches for safety interlock that will disable the oven automatically when the door is open. So for the microwave to work perfectly, the different switches have to be lined up neatly with their corresponding latches when you close the door.

Slamming the door often can physically break any of these complicated components. The series of different switches have to work in unison in order to make the microwave function as it should. If one of these switches or latches get some kind of damage, the microwave oven will be inoperable.

Don’t Run It On Empty

Some people have the habit of turning on their microwave with nothing inside, just to use its timer. But this habit could break your microwave. With nothing, not even water inside, there’s nothing to heat. Because of this, the inside parts of your microwave could get overheated and then cause burned marks. When a cavity appears, the microwave could focus on that spot and cause irreparable damage.
